With the Iron and Steel Industry being one of the bases for multiple industries ranging from Automobile, Ship Building, Rail Transportation and even the construction industry. It makes sense that the major player in the industry should achieve growth and work according to its full potential.
With the SAIL. which is Steel Authority of India Limited coming up with begging bowl every now and then, to the Central Government, the disinvestment done by the "Modi Government" has been a right decision.
The plants which are a part of SAIL group from Durgapur to Bhilai or Durg in Chattisgarh along with Viskhapatnam has given their due to the country. The so called Champion in terms of Steel Production Bokaro is relying on the small scale industries in the form of "BIADA" - which is the Bokaro Industrial Area Development Association.
Bokaro steel City has always been famous because of the middle class, and their children have bought sincere names in the academic field from IIT to various other institutes. One has to understand that nobody can rest on the laurels of the past. They have to perform each day to keep the aspirations high in terms of giving great services to the nation.
Whether, it was the modernisation fund given to the Bokaro Steel City or the Plant or any other funds allocated by the Central Government, it has gone into alligator's mouth and after that their were tears to roll down.
The common working class which stood to be the backbone of the industry has got nothing out of the industry, rather than being a slave. I remember, the day when my Father left the world for heavenly abode which was 13th of February, 2009. Some local person who disguised himself as a big politician said that we would like to keep the deceased body of my father on the pedestrian at Bokaro hospital mortuary and shout against the SAIL Authority..
I was brave enough to say that, I don't need any such propaganda and would go for funeral of my father with respect and dignity which a person needs after death. Seeing this I was offered a respectable job on the 13th day of the demise of my father in the form of Peon, in Bokaro Steel Plant. I refused the job and then the management come up with other plan of paying a small amount which was just the Basic amount of my father then salary amount. It also was to end by the retirement date of my father which was falling in the year 2014. I accepted this and left to Delhi with my widowed mother.
This is a small town mentality of a guy who against all odds try to be brave and has in mind that I will be able to "stand out and stand alone". With, the call centre being the place for some quick bucks and a great place for learning, I joined I-Energizer and worked their under some good leadership. At, the same time, I was managing my studies along with the rent and invested father's salary amount into my home. Today my mother, is a proud owner of her own home in the locality of Ghaziabad and the amount which, I got from SAIL. BOKARO STEEL PLANT, a little more than, INR 23,000 ( which is just $ 343 ) was use top pay the amount of INR 21,187 ( $ 316) which was the bank mortgage for another 6 years from the bank.
With, a lot of opportunity coming in my way in terms of Customer Service Executives job, I joined IBM India ( Pvt) ltd and further I completed Digital Marketing course by NIIT, Imperia. From where, I learned the fine nuances of Digital marketing. It lead to giving a lots of satisfaction as after sometime I also completed my Post Graduation in Sociology, from Bharati Vidyapeeth ,SDL, Pune.
So, talking about the BOKARO STEEL CITY. it has not put any great impact on our mind. It has given the worst backlash to the SIKH Community in the form of 84 communal riots. The probe is always done in the name of Delhi but if a person will type on Wikipedia, they will find that the Brahmin group which was led by a politician called P.N. Tripathi who was the then INC chief ( Indira National Congress) was the person behind the mass massacre of Sikh people in Bokaro Steel City.
I have this memory which still takes me to shudders. The incident took place when I was merely 5 year old. My father was a "Junior Operative" in SAIL, Bokaro Steel Plant. I was with my mother and younger sister (who unfortunately is no more) and expired at Institute of Hotel Management, PUSA, Bangalore- "A HOTEL MANAGEMENT STUDENT" left towards our Grandpa's home which was at Thana More sector-3-B. We, were staying at Sector 3-C and that was the first communal riots of my life which shook both of us as children. My Mother being a brave women, still taking the name of the God took us to the safety as the "Bhumihar Group" in the name Of the dreaded "Chattan Singh" S.P. Singh who was not less than a disguise person and many other such people who have their own political army took on road and the loot, arson, rape everything was happening around the city major centres of commerce and business.
Thanks to my mother's effort and the will of GOD we reach safely to the Grandpa's home. After, few days curfew was imposed in the city and still my father has to work over time in Bokaro Steel Plant, during nights and even days. There were very few people in the Plant under the leadership of Mr. Sindhu and Mr. Garg who were facing the backlash in terms of the death of the then Prime Minister. That was the time when, the Punjabi Community was facing taunts from everyone. I can say that I have not seen the riots of Delhi but the Political Science books of Delhi University by Mr. Khushwant Singh, is quite true in nature.
I visited Bokaro few days back and one could see that Siwandih which is the entry point of Bokaro after getting down from Railway Station, looks beatiful with vegetable market and poultry farming making it a very self sustained economy. Till, cooperative colony one finds that everything looks good. Once, you enter the Steel City, things start looking dark. The City certainly does not look chirpy and the places of amusement are almost closing down. Thankfully, the city is dying it's own death and no measures from the "Indian Government" is going to lift it up. With, a dark history in the form of social backlash the authority cannot hide it under the blankets for a long time.
Being, the major taunts coming up on any relationship the city will certainly never grow and neither stand-out in terms of performance in Steel Manufacturing. The 16th of December 2017, when India was celebrating the Annual Steel Day Award Ceremony. none of the SAIL employees were present to talk about the future of Steel in India. It shows, the kind of knowledge they have in terms of steel production.
With, the great Korean steel manufacturer PASCO taking initiative to open up plant in Orissa and TATA Steel coming up in the Top 10 list along with Essar and Jindal Steel coming up as the major steel manufacturers around the world, it makes sense that Government should take care of new manufacturers in the Steel Industry, whether, Big or small across India.
Rest is on the Government and the world steel community to decide that which steel makers is giving the true picture of production and yearly profit report. As, nobody loves to gamble on a lame horse, when it comes to winning a race.
