The introduction of Television during the year 1980 has been more than helpful in every possible manner. The country has seen a sea change in different aspects of television presentation and also the way of prsemting the news has changed.
When we talk about various news presenter from the likes of Salma Sultan to the other popular news reader such as Mr. Shami Narang along with Miss Sarla Maheshwari and my personal favorite who looked so beautiful that one use to never dodge an eye or even an eyelid also never use to drop down.
The beautiful women whom I was very fond of as a News reader was none other than Miss Sobhana Jagdish. For me she is an eternal beauty and her way of dressing up was so immaculate that her Saree pilates never use to fall.... Ahhaha if looks could have killed I would have been the first person to die in her lap. I would have said the same dialogue of Deewar Maa aab mai ja raha hoon...is chal prapanch ki duniya me mujhse raha nahi jata...meri Aakanasha ( ambitions) ko mujhse juda kar diya.... hai re ye 84 ka dard jise Radheshyam Pandey jaisa dalal khatam nahi hone deta....
The second lady who created flutters in many hearts was Miss Salma Sultan with her rose style and a beautiful rose flower tucked in her hair. She was known around the world for her glamour and style quotient. She use to speak Hindi in such a way that resembles a very Pakeezah style voice of adab and the muslim etiquetes were a part of her voice.
Similarly, Mr. Shami Narang who was famous as a news presenter has seen a lot of jokes in the Children periodicals where he use to say... Mera naam Shammi Narang hi hai....waise holi ke rango ne mera ye haal kar diya hai... jokes apart let me come to the substance...
In the era of Doordarshan news, there was nothing called Mass Communication courses. There was also no courses on video editing, journalism or any such specific studies about News Anchor or News reading. There used to be voice test and people were chosen according to their baritone for men and sweetness of the voice along with presentation skills of women.
The journalism was very simple but immaculate and to the point. Although, the voice over or the dubbing was still there where a newsreader could say his own preferences words which he feels so that his or her face should look at ease or normal along with the intonation of the voice on fun, laughter and sadness coinciding with some characters of real life whom they deeply love and understood.
After this reading, the dubbing in their original voice use to happen in the studio and they were able to give natural expressions because they were in love with some characters whom they would like to meet from their own country. He or she could be from their nation. This news reading practice is still going on but people who do not have any knowledge of journalism start fighting that what is the need to put a person name..but at the same time the person who is knowingly or unknowingly in the background of news still understand the rhetoric behind it.
Now, talking about a very well behaved and suave gentleman in English news reading was Mr. Sunit Tandon who was a perfect gentleman with the stubble and a very lean and thin structure. Mr. Ved Prakash was a person who has very Bhatia ji style from the neighborhood and looked as if he is in deep thoughts thinking something else and reading out the news at the same time.
These people were a part of Newsroom before 1996 or till 1996 when as in the year 1996 I was preparing for my board exams.
Now, talking about the standards these stalwarts have put into news reading cannot be compared by anyone. If we see the channels esp. in Hindi such as NDTV and India TV they do not match any style of news reading. If we see the Rajat Sharma owned INDIA TV it has various actors, politicians coming from various sections of life and they speak answers to the odd questions by Mr. Rajat Sharma.
Similarly, NDTV has sometimes cyclathon going on or the other time it is Save the tiger campaign which does not make it more than an NGO trying to fight out for its own existence.
If one goes through channel owned by Essel Group which is ZEE NEWS then it has journalist like Miss Mimansa Malik along with Miss Aditi Tyagi who has no formal background of Media studies but she is a Post Graduate in English from Delhi University.
Similarly, Mr, Sudhir Chaudhary and the likes oF Mr. Vidyanath Jha looks so presentable that my mother who is more than 62 years old feels like spending time by seeing the news. All the news reader show a sense of respect towards journalism and try to dig out the truth.
It makes us feel proud that the News reading is still in style because of the likes of Miss Rubilka Liyaquat along with various others whohaves bought substance in the news industry where most of the time it is faking news and nothing more than that.
It's good that they work and fight to set trends in journalism and do not feel afraid of anything or even go overboard in speaking out. they create fun factor which makes the atmosphere light and people enjoy the news.
With ITV or LIVE TV becoming the new style quotient you could feel them talking with you and feel as if they have entered your home and your heart. If talking about the other channels they do not make that impact which is a kind of daring style searching of scoop or various other reporting where Mr. Sudhir Chaudhary has gone to Siachen along with the camera and crew to bring out the daily routine of the soldiers.
So, if anyone who feels that those fools of the likes of Arnab Goswami from Republic TV who was asked to leave Times Now because of the same words "The Nation wants to know" which he repeatedly shouts at the top of the voice and similar others who are from the India Today group who believe that they are the only one to know English after Queen Victoria or lady Diana should be watched out.
I think a person cannot learn English from an India based News Channel but if he is looking to learn through T.V they should watch CNN or IBN.
If they really want to learn style and suave dressing then they should watch Zee News and also enjoy the beauty of the News Reader along with the handsome guys who are style quotient in their own ways to learn skills of News reading.
